Position Summary
The Alumni Placement Specialist provides job development and career coaching services to NPower Canada graduates, ensuring their ability to secure and retain employment. This involves developing job placements with new and existing employer partners, along with liaising between graduates and their supervisors to ensure that placements are proceeding smoothly, and expectations are being met. This also includes connecting graduates with mentors, organizing professional development and networking events for alumni, and supporting alumni with pursuing further education to advance in their careers.

This position plays a pivotal role in ensuring that NPower Canada achieves its core outcome of placing at least 80% of alumni into employment and/or higher education within 6 months of graduation.

Accountabilities & Deliverables

Employer Engagement

Engage potential employers who are most likely to hire NPower Canada graduates, providing them with evidence-based outcomes of participant success in the IT/ Digital industry in order to motivate them to hire youth.
Maintain a dual-customer approach, matching graduates with opportunities best aligned with their skills and interests, while offering employers a high-quality, reliable talent solution.
Develop an in-depth understanding of an employer’s needs, values, and available positions through asking questions, listening carefully and then demonstrating understanding by matching the employer with candidates whose goals, interests and aptitudes are aligned with their needs.
Foster the creation of long-term hiring partnerships that serve both employers and youth.
Alumni Coaching and Placement

Pre-screen program participants for employment readiness and suitability for specific roles by conducting telephone and online assessments and mock interviews.
Curate rosters of suitable participants based on employers’ specific hiring needs and skills requirements.
Guide program participants through employers’ recruiting systems and processes, ensuring that online applications, background checks and other critical steps are completed in a timely and accurate manner.
Liaise between employers and participants to obtain feedback on interviews, extend offers of acceptance and complete any other required paperwork.
Provide job retention coaching to alumni, assisting graduates to successfully resolve challenges in the workplace, improve workplace communication skills and overcome performance issues.
Alumni Placement Monitoring and Support

Act as first point of contact for inquiries from employer partners and NPower Canada alumni, providing timely support and proactively resolving concerns.
Connect frequently with graduates and their supervisors to ensure that expectations are being met, obtain updates and offer additional support as needed.
Conduct supervisor quality checks and satisfaction surveys to obtain feedback and flag any issues for follow-up.
Data Collection, Administration and Reporting

Ensure timely, accurate and comprehensive entry of case notes and related program information into Salesforce database, ensuring data integrity and security.
Conduct quarterly surveys with graduates to track data related to employment status, career progression, further educational attainment and related metrics.
Prepare regular statistical reports on progress towards job placement and retention KPIs.
Alumni Career Development Coaching

Organize hiring events for alumni to connect them with jobs and support their continued career progression.
Support alumni with planning for their continued education.
Provide job retention coaching to alumni, assisting graduates to successfully resolve challenges in the workplace, improve workplace communication skills and overcome performance issues.
Connect with alumni for a minimum of sixty (60) months post-hire, touching base on a frequent and consistent basis via telephone, e-mail and text to confirm employment/educational status and to offer support as needed.
Who you are:

2-3+ years of job development and human services experience.
Post-secondary education in human resources, business, human services or a related area is preferred.
Enthusiastic self-starter who perceives challenges as opportunities.
Thrives on helping youth achieve their career goals and connecting employers with great talent.
Familiarity with HR best practices regarding recruitment, onboarding and performance management.
Highly agile and adaptable to changing environment.
Exceptional communication and issue resolution skills; ability to navigate sensitive situations with diplomacy and tact.
Excellent time and task management and prioritization skills.
Proven ability to build credible relationships and demonstrate good judgement
Highly analytical and detail-oriented.
Proficient in data management and reporting; experience with Salesforce or a comparable CRM is an asset.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills demonstrated through the preparation and delivery of written reports, presentations and sensitive communications with employers and alumni.
